Recently, the PlanetWatch project has deployed a network of air quality sensors around the city of Miami to monitor the concentration of pollution in the environment.
Since 2021, Miami has been preparing to be one of the first U.S. cities. to monitor air quality through a decentralized IoT network built over Algorand.
The French environmental technology company Planetwatch has developed five different types of air quality sensors. Thanks to this, sensors will be deployed throughout the city, even in the homes of residents.
"Each sensor detects the concentration of air pollution in an area. When combined into a network, they will help city residents and officials analyze where the highest levels of pollution exist. The data collected by the sensors will be recorded in the Algorand blockchain, which will make it inviolable and permanent, "explains Brian Newar of the Cointelegraph web portal.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has been a strong advocate for the use of blockchain technology.
According to "the data from this project will play a crucial role in our climate adaptation efforts, as well as in our ambitions to make Miami an epicenter for digital capital markets".
Residents who agree to run a sensor in their homes will be rewarded with Planet Tokens. Planets can be sold by fiat on the open market or exchanged for Earth credits. Earth Credits are noninterchangeable tokens that PlanetWatch uses as internal currency for its products and services.
